About Us

OUR MISSION

At the heart of our mission is a holistic approach to concussions, recognizing their impact on the entire body, not just the head, with a focus on optimizing energy. We aim to enlighten caregivers and individuals about the interconnectedness of the brain, neck, and gut, going beyond conventional head-focused treatment. Our goal is to prevent life-altering concussion damage by understanding how to address issues early for more positive short and long-term outcomes.

Dr. Robert Baric of My Concussion Dr

Dr. Robert Baric, DC

Meet Dr. Robert Baric, a dedicated advocate for health and wellness with over 25 years of experience in the field. Dr. Baric's professional journey has been marked by a commitment to addressing the root causes of health challenges rather than simply alleviating symptoms. In 2016, he introduced Neurofeedback Therapy to West Cary, marking a significant development in holistic healthcare. This innovative approach, brought to life through MyBrainDR, reflects his dedication to remaining at the forefront of healthcare advancements and improving patient well-being. Dr. Baric holds certifications in acupuncture, nutrition, pediatric chiropractic care, and various therapeutic techniques. His expertise spans diverse chiropractic methods and therapies, all integral components of our holistic concussion care approach. However, his motivation is the driving force behind his work. Dr. Baric regularly encounters individuals whose lives have been deeply impacted by concussions, understanding the significant physical, emotional, and cognitive toll these injuries can exact. This awareness fuels his commitment to proactive and comprehensive concussion care, beginning with his contribution to the board of the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina (BIANC). His underlying philosophy is straightforward: addressing concussion concerns at their earliest stages, even when they appear minor, holds the potential to reduce both short-term and long-term effects. Dr. Baric's central focus is not only on treating concussions but also guiding individuals towards a path of recovery and overall well-being.

Dr. Frances Meredith, MD of My Concussion Dr

Dr. Frances Meredith, MD

Frances Meredith MD, board certified both by American Board of Internal Medicine and Institute of Functional Medicine, provided Primary Care and Infectious Disease expertise in the Triangle for over 20 years. She now practices purely Functional Medicine since 2017. Her passion for improving concussion care has grown from the intersection of her 2016 career shift to “root cause” Functional Medicine and concussions in both patients and those near and dear to her. After medical school and residency at University of Virginia School of Medicine, fellowship training at Duke Medical Center in Infectious Disease and Clinical Microbiology, followed by 20 years of practice in Internal Medicine/Infectious Disease, she realized that she must make a change in her life and her career. She began to recognize that the reactive “Bandaid” traditional model of medicine was serving neither patient nor provider well. She is so grateful to have been led to Functional Medicine, a new model of wellness, one that is proactive and root caused based. In practice since 2017 with Carolina Total Wellness, she sees many patients with complex, chronic, multi-system illnesses, many of whom suffer with fatigue, brain fog, migraines, intestinal disturbances, immune dysfunction, and hormonal and mood imbalance. Most of these patients have felt unheard by the traditional medical community. She values the most important skill she has learned from Functional Medicine: ask the right questions, then be quiet and listen. Often she finds a pivot point in the life of a chronically ill patient. It may be an infection, a trauma, or a concussion. Concussion, however, can be difficult to determine, as frequently we do not remember our head traumas. Slowly as she “peels the onion” layer by layer, concussion she finds is often a huge factor in significant health shifts. On a personal level, she is a Mom of three children, an Argentine tango dancer, and appreciator of all things music.

Dr. Meredith's Concussion Story

Concussion experience with her twin sons Bryce and Ryan have made it clear to her that the current state of the art of acute concussion care is woefully inadequate. Her son Ryan, 22 at the time, suffered a concussion December 2022. He received minimal advice from his ER visit. Luckily with rest, avoiding screens, putting off final exams, proper nutrient support and slow return to activity, his concussion healed quickly. Twin Bryce Meredith, on track for a professional soccer career, suffered a concussion June 3, 2023 on the soccer field. His case sadly was one of extreme mismanagement in that he was allowed by a trainer to go back out on the field even after being unconscious for well over a minute. Since this error, adding weeks if not months to his recovery, he is working diligently on brain rehab and proper nutrition, now back on his professional soccer career path. Dr. Meredith is now committed to spreading information about current cutting edge concussion care to all. Her goal is to have the knowledge and tools at the ready for every family, as we all will have someone we know suffer from a concussion and time is of the essence. She looks to a future where this knowledge and toolbox will be immediately accessible for all, athletes and nonathletes alike.
